Although humans claim to stand atop the food chain, it’s the four-legged critters living in our homes that make the important decisions.
They determine when to be fed, preferably the moist food, and they demand fresh water because it’s been sitting for a couple of hours.
They choose when to sleep and select how much of the bed they think you should have. Then they tell you it is time to wake up in the morning.
These loving creatures are also kind enough to tell you when a job’s been well done. The dog will wag her tail when the belly has been rubbed, and the cat will purr contentedly by your side after a satisfying meal.
So if being at the top of the food chain requires the ability to open doors, pour food and rub bellies, then we are definitely there.
