We made it up to Humboldt Redwoods State Park on Tuesday afternoon. It is 223 miles north of San Francisco, so the fact we only made one wrong turn is astounding! Once at the campsite, we got our tent up quickly under second-growth redwoods.
In the attached picture, I am standing next to a very old redwood. It started growing in 1148 AD. Different markers on the tree indicate the signing of the Magna Charter and the signing of the Declaration of Independence. I am pointing to the approximate point of my birth bear the bark. 😉
